How this mock works

IELTS Academic Writing has two tasks in one sitting (about 60 minutes total). Task 2 is worth more of your Writing score, so most candidates spend roughly 20 minutes on Task 1 and 40 minutes on Task 2.

In this online mock you type your answers on screen. Write in clear academic English, meet the word counts, and finish both tasks. A human examiner then reviews your scripts and sends detailed feedback.

This mock follows the Academic module (visual description + essay). If you need General Training (letter + essay), tell us — we can expand options later.

The two tasks

Academic Writing

Task 1 — Describe a visual

At least 150 words · about 20 minutes

You receive a visual such as a line graph, bar chart, pie chart, table, process diagram, or map. Your job is to summarise the main information in your own words — not copy labels or give personal opinions.

A strong Task 1 usually includes:

An overview of the biggest trends or stages
Key figures or comparisons (select, don’t list everything)
Clear organisation (introduction → overview → details)
Accurate data language (increase, peak, remain stable, etc.)

Aim for 150+ words. Under-length answers are penalised. Stay factual — Task 1 is description, not an essay argument.

Task 2 — Write an essay

At least 250 words · about 40 minutes

You respond to a question or statement on a general academic topic (education, environment, technology, society, health, and similar themes). Common types include opinion, discussion (both views), advantages/disadvantages, problems/solutions, and two-part questions.

A strong Task 2 usually includes:

A clear position that answers the question directly
2–3 developed body paragraphs with reasons and examples
Logical linking between ideas
A short conclusion that matches your argument

Aim for 250+ words. Plan briefly before you write. Task 2 carries more weight than Task 1 — leave enough time.
