How this mock works

IELTS Writing has two tasks in one sitting (about 60 minutes total). You choose Academic or General Training when you begin. Task 2 is worth more of your Writing score, so most candidates spend roughly 20 minutes on Task 1 and 40 minutes on Task 2.

In this online mock you type your answers on screen under a shared timer. Meet the word counts, finish both tasks, then submit. A human examiner reviews your scripts and sends detailed feedback.

The two tasks

Academic or General Training

Task 1 — Academic visual

At least 150 words · about 20 minutes

You receive a visual such as a line graph, bar chart, pie chart, table, process diagram, or map. Summarise the main information in your own words — not copy labels or give personal opinions.

A strong Academic Task 1 usually includes:

  • An overview of the biggest trends or stages
  • Key figures or comparisons (select, don’t list everything)
  • Clear organisation (introduction → overview → details)
  • Accurate data language (increase, peak, remain stable, etc.)
Aim for 150+ words. Stay factual — Academic Task 1 is description, not an essay argument.

Task 1 — GT letter

At least 150 words · about 20 minutes

You write a letter for an everyday situation. Follow the required tone (formal, semi-formal, or informal) and cover every bullet point in the prompt.

A strong GT Task 1 usually includes:

  • Correct opening and closing for the tone
  • All bullet points covered clearly
  • Logical paragraphing and purpose
  • Natural letter language (not an essay)
Aim for 150+ words. Match the tone — a formal complaint and an informal note to a friend are scored differently.

Task 2 — Write an essay

At least 250 words · about 40 minutes · shared by both modules

You respond to a question or statement on a general topic (education, environment, technology, society, health, and similar themes). Common types include opinion, discussion (both views), advantages/disadvantages, problems/solutions, and two-part questions.

A strong Task 2 usually includes:

  • A clear position that answers the question directly
  • 2–3 developed body paragraphs with reasons and examples
  • Logical linking between ideas
  • A short conclusion that matches your argument
Aim for 250+ words. Plan briefly before you write. Task 2 carries more weight than Task 1 — leave enough time.

Tip: Practise typing academic English beforehand. Once you start the paid mock, treat it like the real exam — complete both tasks in one sitting.
